How often this happens
Hundreds of people go to the hospital every day for dog bites. More than half of attacks happen at home, with a dog the victim already knew — and households with multiple dogs carry a much higher risk.
Children are bitten most, especially between ages five and nine, and their injuries tend to be to the face and hands, where scarring and nerve damage last for life.
What we recover
Emergency treatment, reconstructive and scar-revision surgery, infection care, therapy for the very real fear that follows an attack, and compensation for permanent disfigurement.
